Are you wondering how effective people strike out a balance and produce productive results?? The following are 7 wonderful habits of highly effective people.

1. Be Proactive

Proactive is all about taking the first step forward and accepting a responsibility in your life. You can’t blame your situation on your choices, family, genetics, peers or behaviour. People who are affected by such circumstances are often called “Reactive” people. However, Proactive people do not blame situations and understand that they are responsible.

Proactive people focus their efforts on their “Circle of Influence”. They work on things that they have control over like work, family, health, problems in personal and professional life. To be effective, an individual has to learn to be proactive. Instead of worrying about conditions you have no control over, focus your energies on things you can control.

2. Begin with the end in mind

What do you aim to be when you grow up? Are you now what you want to be or dreamt to be? Many times people find themselves achieving milestones that have come at the cost of something else more valuable to them. Habit 2 “Begin with the end in mind” is nothing but based on imagination. The ability to envision your future.

It is important to make a conscious effort to visualize what you are and what you want to be in the future. The best way to incorporate this habit is to develop a “Mission Statement”. It helps you focus on what you want to be come and what you need to do to achieve the same. Your mission statement makes you the ruler of your own life. You have the power to create your own destiny.

3. Put First Things First

For all those who are stressed out working on practically everything possible, you need to understand first that you cannot do everything. To lead a balanced, happy, and productive life, you need to realise that not doing everything is absolutely ok. There is no need to over stress yourself. You have all the right to say “No” to people or situations and focus only on the highest priorities.

Habit 3 is all about how you manage your life. Your life comprises of purposes, roles, values and priorities. You need to remember that you need to concentrate of “First things first”. Your first things will mainly include things that hold maximum importance and worth in your life. This should be your first priority to focus on first things. If you put first things first managing your times, events and work according to personal priorities will become more easy. You will remain in a calm state of mind and be more effective.

4. Think WIN-WIN

Think Win-Win is not a quick fix overnight technique. It is based on human collaboration and interaction. Most of us learn and realize self-worth based on competition and comparison. We always think of the Win-Lose situation where one wins and the other loses. However, Win-Win sees life not as a competitive one but rather as a cooperative arena. It is a frame of mind that seeks a mutual interaction and benefit in human collaboration and interactions.

Win-Win is mutually satisfying and beneficial. A person with a Win-Win attitude possesses mainly 3 characteristics- Integrity, Abundance Mentality, and Maturity. Win-Win is a balancing act where you have to be confident and empathic both at the same time. You need to be brave, considerate and sensitive too.

5. Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood

You spend many years learning to speak, read and write. But how about learning to listen?? How many of us have the skill to listen? Communication is an important skill in life that involves both speaking and listening. Most people first seek to be understood and then understand others. In doing so, the other party tends to feel neglected and ignored.

Have you ever wondered why this happens? This is so because most of us listen with the intent of replying rather than attempting to understand. The way to eliminate this misunderstanding is to attempt to understand the other person first before expecting to be understood. This brings a balance in communication making it more effective.

6. Synergize

Often collective effort is better than individual effort. Synergy simply means “two heads are better than one head”. It is nothing but creative cooperation. Synergy involves open-mindedness and teamwork. Synergy does not happen on its own. It requires a collective effort of a process that brings people together with their expertise and personal experiences at the table.

When you are a team, you can provide much better results than individual efforts. Synergy helps us discover things together which is often ignored in an individual focus. When people begin to interact with one another, they are exposed to each other’s experience and influence which makes them see a whole new different light. The ability to innovate increases more due to the differences. Differences and working together is the true essence of synergy.

7. Sharpen the Saw

“Sharpen the Saw” mean nothing but simply enhancing and preserving the greatest asset that you have—which is you. It is a balancing program of 4 core areas of life- Mental, spiritual, physical, and socio-economical. As you focus on these core areas of your life, you create change and grow in life. You increase the ability to handle the challenges around you and be more productive.

Feeling good doesn’t happen on its own. Being effective is not something inherited. You need to sharpen the saw to be more effective and feel good. You should pamper yourself mentally, physically and spiritually, and socio-economically. By sharpening the saw, you can revitalize yourself and face every new day with peace.
